Out of Site, Never Out of Mind
What happens when you can't have a paint brush in your hand? How serious is the need to be painting for you? Why is it everything we see inspires the colors for our next inspiration? How many houses barns, business or vacant walls do you pass that just screams "that needs a barn quilt"?
If these are your symptoms and the need for creativity is a always in mind, then you my friend, have the Barn Quilt Addiction. It is controlling, like a drug, we can't get passed these thoughts throughout our day. My gears are always turning. My laptop is rarely out of reach or my phone to snap a picture of any inspiration. I wear out the notes app in my phone until I can get it put on virtual paper.
Just how bad is for me? I traveled to Atlanta for the holiday week to see the grand kids. 4, 3 and 2. And yes can't turn your back for a second. I am really enjoying my time but I have been able to multi-task. I have been working on filling orders for production when I get home, communicated with those of you that I mentor, helped our artist to get their pages up and live on the site and answered texts along the way. I don't mind this at all. Customer calls and emails are always consistent and having "live chat" on the website keeps me hopping.
At this very moment, I traveled to Salisbury, NC from Atlanta (just went that way a week ago from my home in NC) with my son for a day trip. He races sprint cars and while I am here at the track, watching mud being slung, motors humming, and gas fumes in the air, I am at the keyboard - multi-tasking. From 4 am this morning - all the way up the road and will be hard at it all the way back to Atlanta later this afternoon. Thank goodness for WiFi hot spot!
I am inspired by a couple of sprint car color combinations, made note of this. (Does that race trailer need a BQ? - lol, it is a bare wall) I also have been working with our website designer on a new feature of the site. We are now going to be able to offer Pattern Downloads and this is a big request. I am also working on new images for the next book. I have so much new to include in this one such as creative borders, scaling patterns, pattern integrations, and many new patterns that I wish I had time to paint.
I will be sprinkling a few of the new patterns in the Pattern Downloads that will be on the site however, purchasing the book is more cost effective if you plan to do many different patterns. If you only purchased the beginners, intermediate or advanced book, then you can always pick up a pattern that may not be in these.
So like a drug, the creative juices are necessary to keep me going. I guess there are always worse addictions to have. My mind never stops and I have been accused of rarely sleeping. If I have it on my mind, I have to do it whether virtually, or physically.
I will miss the studio time over the next few weeks but I will be slammed when I get back. Until then, grand babies, family, sun and sand and laptop on the beach for a few weeks. I have no desire for rehab at the moment. Support my fellow artist is where my joy lies.
Carry on the addiction,
Talara

Beautiful grandchildren!
